Harvest Party!

The Harvest Moon
Dear Esteemed Market-goers,

Here we are folks. We made it to the end of another great season. Tomorrow is the final (almost) market of the season. I say almost because we still have our annual Thanksgiving Market to look forward to. The Thanksgiving Market will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Meyer Boys and Girls Club. Please note that the market is on a Tuesday (not a Wednesday).

For our final market, we’re hoping that the full moon disperses the cloud cover. How fitting that a full moon will hang over our final market of the season–our annual Harvest Party.

Here’s what you can expect:

Corn Roast

We’ll be throwing corn on the cob on the barbecue. You’ll be able to compare ears of corn from your favorite farms–who’s got the best?!?

Sellwood Middle School Marimba Band

Provided the skies stay clear in the afternoon, we’ll be joined by our favorite musical group in the neighborhood, the SMS Marimba Band! They’ll get things going at 4:15 at the north end of the lot.

Treats!

The first 100 visitors to the market will receive cookies from Russell’s Bakery. Get there first!

Cider

Stephens Farm will be passing out cups of their highly regarded fall pressing.

Pumpkin Painting/Carving

Stop in to hang out with the Moreland Farmers Market Volunteer Crew, who will be putting scary faces on large cucurbits.

Market Bag Drawing

Stop by the information booth to enter to win a bag of market produce–to be awarded at the Thanksgiving Market!

We are happy to announce the arrival of two new vendors tomorrow. Happy Campers Baking will join us with their spread of gluten-free bread options. I hear that they are converting even the gluten-tolerant crowd! Another new vendor who you may recognize from last year’s Thanksgiving Market is Sage and Sea Farms, who bring their unique sipping vinegars–great for sipping or mixing into other concoctions! Plus, Rx Missionary Chocolates will be returning this week with their vegan truffles that had the whole market intoxicated last week.

Also, Russell’s Bakery will be back with their Pizza Oven. Their Pizza Pies were a hit at the market last week. They will also be taking pie orders for the Thanksgiving Market, so swing by and fill out an order form!

Tomorrow is also a special day because it will be the first time the market has not one, but two market managers! Adam Seidman, our newly hired manager will be getting oriented to the market tomorrow and taking notes on my dance moves…I mean, my coordination strategy. In any case, I’m very excited to introduce Adam to folks, although many of you may already know Adam because he has been a regular market-goer for years. Adam has been a resident of Westmoreland since 2008. He has a diverse background and looks forward to marrying his business skills with his passion for local food. His most recent venture involved co-founding SmarterSprout, a business that delivered healthy lunches to schools in Portland. He is eager to get to know all of you in the community!

I will be helping out with the transition over the next month and half, and I will also be present for the Thanksgiving Market–so I’m not out of your hair yet! I will be posting a more formal and loquacious good-bye on the website–so look out for that! I will do my best to foment or discount rumors about my future…
