I worry about eco-claims at Farmers’ Markets, too. I don’t supopse we could twist your arm into sharing two or three important questions one might ask when evaluating produce . . . .-Darin Bradley
Hi Darin,
This is a great question, and one that we could devote a whole post to. Our market only allows vendors to make certifiable claims (i.e. Certified Organic) as opposed to uncertifiable claims (i.e. Pesticide-Free). We also ask vendors to describe their growing practices and to provide us with copies of all appropriate licenses and certificates.
Every vendor has their own story and set of growing practices, and I encourage you to engage directly with them – after all, that is one of the great benefits of having a farmers market!
Feel free to reach out to me with any specific questions you might have. You can contact me at adam@morelandfarmersmarket.org or at 503-341-9350.
See you at the market!
