Abundant Fields Farm is a Certified Naturally Grown farm 1 acre big located in Oreint, Oregon (out toward Gresham). Farmer and owner Rick describes himself as a “full-time, part-time farmer,” and after hearing his story, that description sounds quite accurate! When not tending to his farm he’s busy helping his wife raise their 4-year-old son. Only in their fourth year of growing, Abundant Fields sure is abundant, given that all the delicious, beautiful produce you’ll find at their booth is farmed mostly by just Rick, and all on one simple acre of land.
The week I spoke with him, Rick had a variety of squash, pickling cucumbers, green beans and lettuces. More recently he’s had kale, carrots, garlic, and a beautiful purple cauliflower. When asked what his specialty was, he said that he’s still trying to figure out what his niche is in the farming community is. Right now, he’s growing a bit of everything to see what he enjoys the most.
Rick currently sells his produce only at Farmers Markets, and he seems to like it that way. He even told me that his favorite days of the week are those that he gets to come to the Farmer’s Markets. When asked why he chose to sell at Moreland Farmer’s Market, he said that it is a fun market in a great part of Portland and that the volunteers are always friendly (thanks, Rick!).
Be sure to look for Rick at the Abundant Fields booth this Wednesday at the market, and check out his website: abundantfieldsfarm.com
